THE FOUNDING GATHERINGof the Conversation Courtyard™

Some places are built.
Others are cultivated over a lifetime.
The Conversation Courtyard™ represents the culmination of decades spent exploring a single question:
How do words shape our thoughts, our lives, our relationships — with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us?
That question has guided my work for many years.
It began with TIFIDIN™: Think It. Feel It. Do It Now. A philosophy built on the belief that the words we think, the messages we surround ourselves with, and the conversations we have influence the lives we create.
Those ideas found expression in many forms.
There was Words to Live By™, encouraging people to surround themselves with principles that guide how they live.
There was Wear Your Attitude™, reminding us that even what we choose to wear communicates something about who we are.
There were conversation quotes accompanying mints, fruit candies, and coconut chocolates, turning an everyday moment into an opportunity for reflection.
More than twenty-five years ago came TO SUCCEED, a simple framework that encouraged people to live intentionally through the choices they make, the people they surround themselves with, and the conversations they cultivate. What began as a pocket-sized publication has continued to evolve and today lives on through the SUCCEED Framework™.
The philosophy also extended beyond personal growth.
Through TIFIDIN fundraising initiatives, organizations were able to raise funds while promoting positive messages, businesses supported their communities, and giving back became part of the model rather than an afterthought.
Leadership programs.
Coaching.
Tea & Talk.
Fireside Chats.
And eventually, Elevated Conversations™, where it was confirmed that complete strangers could discuss thought-provoking, and at times controversial, ideas with remarkable depth, curiosity, and civility. Those evenings gave practise to the first ThinkUp Statements™ and affirmed something I had long believed:
People are genuinely drawn to deep, honest conversation. They simply need an invitation and the right environment to have it.
Although each iteration looked different, they were all expressions of the same belief.
Words influence thought.
Thought influences choices.
Choices shape our lives.
Conversations deepen understanding, strengthen relationships, and enrich our lives.
The Conversation Courtyard™ is where those ideas finally found their home.
On Saturday evening, we opened its gates for the very first time.
What followed exceeded anything I could have imagined.
Guests wrote their Words to Live By, then drew someone else's and set out to find the person behind the words. What followed were conversations rooted not in small talk, but in curiosity, values, and the stories that shape us.
Throughout the evening, strangers became acquaintances, acquaintances became friends, and a community began to form.
The conversations were thoughtful.
The laughter was genuine.
The debates were respectful.
The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and alive with curiosity.
Perhaps the greatest affirmation came not from what was said to me, but from what happened naturally.
People lingered.
They continued talking long after the formal activities had ended.
They asked when the next gathering would be.
They wanted to become part of what was beginning.
This was more than the launch of a beautiful outdoor space.
It was the beginning of a community built around real, genuine conversation.
